Hi to all, this is my 1st post, so please bear with me

I have a 1998 E200 auto (210) , 192kms, FSH

Car over heated:
I repaired the head, fitted a new gasket and the cam shaft snapped after 1 day.
It was the inlet cam with the variator. I replaced the cam and got a further week of driving.
This time the chain had snapped. I replaced the chain ( new), chain guides and replaced the head (used).
The car lasted another week , and the inlet cam has snapped again.
This time i replaced the cam and the hydraulic tensioner.
This time i got 2 weeks before cam snapping again !

Has anyone got any experience with this happening before as iam out of suggestions at this stage. i have asked lots of MB mechanics and no one has an answer

Thanks in advance

Hello and welcome,, your problem is with the chain tensioner that must be removed before working on the cams or chain.

When the tensioner is out it must be reset before inserting again, and this is what has given you all that work and grief.

Another techie should answer with some more details on this.

Not that it helps you but many have done the same thing including professionals

As Malcom said you have not fitted the tensioner properly.

It needs to be re-set by removing the inner peice and re-inserting it with one click.

That sounds like an expensive repair......
