Hello, I'm hopping someone can help, I'm based in Newcastle and have been without the use of my family Dualiner since last august. I gave my vito to a local garage to fix a suspected leaking injector. They tried in vain to get the tar from around the injector off, but in the end passed the job on to someone else who said he would do it in between jobs, few months later I get a phone call to come and collect he van, as they had snapped the bolt on the injector and hadn't the time or room to continue. Now I'm stuck as to where to go or what my best options are. I'm told it's easier to have a new engine fitted but feel that's not right? Any help for this is Hartley appreciated. Or if anyone can take the job on for me I would be eternally grateful and what would I expect to pay for such work?

:confused::confused::confused:

Firstly, what a bunch of cowboys! I hate garages who take work on but do not have the means to complete should something go wrong. If they cannot (or do not know how to) repair a snapped bolt they should not have taken it on. DIY mechanics have taken the tar off with the right stuff and repaired snapped bolts. Few months? They're having a laugh.....I hope you haven't paid them too much.

Provided they haven't done any more damage, no you don't need a new engine, hopefully not a new head either.

You may need to get a mobile unit out to repair this, but basically it needs drilling out and retapping, maybe an insert if they have damaged it. In all cases you need to fit a new bolt and washer, some advise to change the forks too.

Search for 'black death' on here, there may be links to repairers in your area, failing that, google should find someone but use someone who specialises in this.

First thing to do is get your van back home.

I didn't pay anything and also made sure I left the van there until I could move it on, so had free storage, but yeah I had a nightmare with them. They also lost my key, luckily I had a spare, but it's still £150 for a new one. The Dualiner is a top of the range van, has all the extras like ac, sunroof, cruise control, electric windows n mirrors, glovebox and airbags etc, hence why I want it repaired. I didn't realise people can do this mobile. That would be brilliant. I'll try and have a look.

Make sure you ask around and find the right guy who can do this job for you, it is relatively simple to do and also relatively simple to make a complete b0ll0cks of as well.

I've spent the day ringing round and driving to different garages, bells truck and van in Gateshead (mb dealer) want £75 to find the problem and at least £1500 to remove the engine to access the head.
I found a indie called justmerks in Newcastle who said its best to remove the head and exchange it and wants £350 to do so plus the new head.
WMB in sunderland said they don't like vans due to the size but it is possible to drill the head in position enough to get a shorter bolt in.

So I'm still sat here scratching my head. I'm leaning towards the justmerks but not too sure what to do. I feel I could do the work myself with the right info. But I reckon the injectors wouldn't be easy to remove

Try ringing a few garages to ask what they would do.
Even though you want someone familiar with the make it is just a snapped bolt.
At worst you will get details of a mobile specialist.
Even though I could flog you the tools to do the job it is something best done by someone who can do the job properly and knows what can go wrong.
Like it has been said the first garage shouldn't have attempted the task.
Good luck
