No matter what you do it will never sound as good as these:
5 cylinders:
6 cylinders:
8 cylinders:
12 cylinders:
No cylinders:
The S600 with the F1 exhaust was insane. The rest was nice as well.

Honest I'm sure you can get it to sound like this...

I think the DB.602 was a good sounding diesel... and of course the Deltic. Can’t forget that buzz.

Problem with diesels is that to get a decent exhaust sound you do have to really have a straight through system from the mainfold to the exhaust tip. This means removing all of the emissions controls in a modern car, fooling all of the sensors (or mapping some of them out) and then finding an extremely friendly MOT tester.

You then have to be very careful out on the road, boot it at the wrong time kicking out that black soot and the plod will have you before you emerge from your own cloud.

Great in theory, not practical in today's world though.

Personally, and with the future of diesels I would just go and get a car that I liked the sound of. I was planning on keeping mine for at least 5 years, but not so sure now.

It's actually VNT turbo and an exhaust system without any wadding that normally absorbs the higher frequencies .
I always thought the 5 pot diesel (e.g. 270cdi) sounded pretty good, Audis one also (which was in the Volvo 850 too back mid 90’s) was meaty.

I'm not a fan of big exhausts and decat's, especially on diesels. It's unsociable and absolutely stinks! :)

I have the same engine om642 and want to do a decat, I only have a oxygen sensor and temperature sensor after the cat, do I need to code anything out or just run it as normal no issues after decatting?
