Just sold the w123 after taking it on one last valedictory tour of northern Staffordshire. Going to miss it.

But now I'm stuck with what to get next. I've got about a grand to spend and want something with a bit more poke. I've been thinking about 190 2.6 or maybe (sorry for the bad language) an E30 325i. Hmmm, decisions.

how about an early w202 c280? not sure how easy a 2.6 190 would be to find. or even a bigger petrol powered 124, like an e300? in fact you could (if you wanted) probably finda 10 e280/320 petrol for that sort of money! think you would struggle to find a turbodiesel one though

Hi Simon,,there are some smashing 201's out there, a baby benz in true form,, the 202 also offers some very good cheap motoring, and there are plenty around with very good bodies. There is a huge difference from the 123 when it comes to driving the cars

You're right; but I really like the way the old cars drive. I don't really like the styling of the w202 and quite fancy something a bit older. I may have to go back down the w126 route.

I too am a great fan of the 201, for all the reasons stated above. From the B pillar forward it just has the feel of a much bigger car - the "true MB feel". And there are some good ones about with lots of miles left in them.

Well, there are some great 300 CE's about. A good one could be had for a grand. They're quite easy to look after as well. 190 2.6's are still out there, though you might have to do a bit of digging to find a tidy one.
A W126 300SE is a great car. Got to find one with leather though, and make sure the chrome is good. They are starting to creep up in value again now so could be a good investment for the future. Stay away from the V8's though as they're mega thirsty and not so easy to work on. ;)

None at the monent, but there's an OM642 in the Jeep Grand Cherokee!
Sounds like a W124 to me :)

Maybe I'm just biased, but I think you'd prefer the pre-'93 facelift models with their bigger grille and orange indicators. Somehow, I always think the Exxx badged W124s 'try too hard' to look modern when in fact their DNA goes back to 1984.

The 300E would be nice, though my 280E has the later M104 engine which - notwithstanding its HG and wiring loom frailties - seems an altogether more modern design than the 103...

CE models possibly more of an 'appreciating classic', as they say.
