Hi all. I own a '91 plate Sl500 and have done for the last 15 years. It started as my main car but for the last 5 years has just been a summer car SORNed for the winter and covered. In this time the inevitable corrosion and moisture have taken their toll and each year it costs more and more to get on the road.

My dilemma is this.....When working it is a great car and a thing of beauty. If the roof etc worked it would be worth 5k plus but that and a number of things don't and if it was in the garage and I could pay out once and then it would be ok for a few years I would keep it but as it is outside in the winter each year it costs a lot to fix....... therefore what can I do?

There is intrinsic value in a lot of the car so where would you sell it as such i.e. Mot for a couple of months but with a lot of bits not working?

Your thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Have you considered finding a car storage facility for the winters?
Perhaps look into a folding garage to keep it under in the winter?

As for selling it it will be difficult to sell unless fully working and you'll get next to nothing for it.
About the only place to sell a vehicle which isn't working well is either at auction or on eBay unless you can find an enthusiast looking for a project.

You could get a cover like i did . It worked good for me the last three years .Cover the car with used bed linen first then the cover .Pushed a king size duvet in the engine and put small dehumidifiers in boot and cabin .Took the covers off last week .It was just as nice as the day i put it on .

Thanks for your ideas, very helpful. I think working on a storage option either by cover or more permanent is probably the way forward.
Thanks again!

Yes storage is the way to go and you can then purchase an indoor cover . If you have room you can get those canvas pull over covers on a frame .
