E320 CDI 2004
I have signed a deal with mercedes benz direct on a e320 on a 53 with 82.5k. Silver with black leather and 5 spoke alloys. It has pan roof with solar module, bi-xenons comand electric seats front, sports suspension, elec folding mirrors etc. No PDC though It has a b service due in 6k have negotiated down to £11700 with one years tax and warrenty with breakdown cover. I could still pull out of this deal losing nothing.

But i have found another e320 on a 04 with 72k motorway miles, privatly owned. It has same spec as above but does not have pan roof but does have PDC. Its black with black leather and has the alloys with i think five spokes but the ones that split at the end like a snakes tounge. Also it had a service at 65k so wont need one for a while! It has now warrenty left or breakdown cover

All advice would be gratefully recieved.

Many thanks

Izy

I'd go for the 04 depending when it was built. April onwards were better cars. You can buy a warranty yourself and PDc will help resale. Black is a bugga to keep clean though.

Just for the record,,Nano paint is a ceramic based paint that is fired on to the shell when first made, the same way that porcelain is fired.

It is not possible to do any repairs using the same technique owing to the high temperatures involved, it was developed for the German car market where it is forbidden to wash the car with a hose pipe where 95% of the water cannot be retrieved

Apologies for swerving off the original point, Malcolm - but does the existence of nano paint make a strong case for trying to preserve the original finish if at all possible?

I ask the question because I am considering having my bonnet resprayed because of (self-inflicted) scratches which won't polish out and stone chips not well attended to. In other words, is the re-sprayed bonnet likely to be less durable in the long run than the original finish?

Grateful for your wisdom in this matter.

PDC is an option that most people find useful. Pan roof is something most people either love or hate. Does look a bit odd on a silver car but less of an issue on black.

Interesting question,, from what I have seen the harder the paint and this includes Nano the more it chips, and the chips on a bonnet can be quite nasty, leaving jagged edges, and difficult to touch in due to these sharp edges.

Cellulose from the 60's was prone to chipping, this is why synthetic came out and first used by Ford. I think that having your bonnet resprayed will be OK if not better when it comes to stone chips.
There are special polishes for Nano paint but you do need a machine to use it.

I would have liked a pano roof, but I did not want a black SL
After seeing a photo from the top, it put me off

Nice to know that you feel the same, and lets face it you do have some taste when it comes to motor cars:D:D

Many thanks for this, Malcolm. Interesting point about hard paint chipping - but I can see that this might well be the case. Think I will go ahead with the bonnet.

An MB salesman once told my partner that the panoramic roofs make the cars a bit noisier inside - not experienced one myself to judge. Less sound deadening above obviously...
