I was servicing the car and I noticed the hose for the turbo was not connected correctly.
Any tips on how I can go about fixing this, and if there are other things that I should do before driving the car again.

I’m not an expert but anything that connects to the turbo such as a coupler/gasket etc should be routinely inspected.

My first thought was could it be degradation via heat and time? I’m not the biggest fan of the materials I see under the hood of modern cars.

I would have thought that coupler thing you can buy new from MB and that’s what I would do first or, see if there is an upgraded air to turbo pipe (assuming that’s what it is) aftermarket.

This is the problem with plastic pipes and why tuners change them generally for aluminium, all plastic hardens with heat cycles and age. Obviously the pipe split which should have resulted in it being changed but that will add a lot of cost to a service job in parts, time and labour hence the bodge. Probably better to find a good MB Independent to do the service work in future.

Hope he comes back the solution is simple order a new pipe

A common failure on cars (any) where plastic is attached to a nice red hot turbo, just ask any MB owner with OM642.

As above. Simple fix - go to a dealer and ask them to pull up the parts pic and order what you need (the plastic joiner) and maybe some proper clamps.

Sadly not uncommon for most garages. They wants fast turnaround of cars and such a part is unlikely to be in shelf - so they just bodge it up.

Well done for being diligent - you will see that its fixed proper I am sure!
