C Class AMG Coupe 2012 1.8 Turbo
Hello,

I'm hoping someone can help me!

I have a 2012 Mercedes C Class Coupe AMG Sport. It's a 1.8 turbo petrol. Today I got my car remapped and it has made it so much quicker off the line. HP increase isn't high, I think about 18hp increase, but apparently torque has increased by 80. Accelerating 0-60 is incredibly quicker considering how heavy the car is compared to the size of the engine. I think standard 0-60 time is just over 8 seconds, but since the remap I have times around 5 seconds. The only thing is when I'm in a higher gear doing low RPM and I go to put my foot down, it feels like something is slipping. The car will sound like it's accelerating, only the car won't. Instead it will slightly shake almost like the wheels aren't getting traction, only it's not that. I spoke to a friend of mine and they said it was more than likely the clutch. I've had a look at new clutches for the c180 specifically for models with the engine remapped and they're around £300, so I want to make sure it is that before buying it.

If anyone can confirm, or tell me exactly what the problem is, it would be greatly appreciated!

Also, if it is the clutch, could anyone recommend one?

Thanks you in advance!

Get to a hill,do about 30 and as high a gear as you can and accelerate,if all you get is slipping it's the clutch?

Assume it is manual and you’ve been spending time giving it beans since the remap now you know it can go quicker....
Could be clutch
Any turbo lag before the remap?
Presuming its the standard diff too
As Steve says, it needs driven by someone who’d know

If its a manual, it will be the clutch, Audi TTs do the same after a remap if the clutch is a bit on the week side before the remap

If you have taken the remap torque over the limit of the clutch then you will knacker your clutch unless you back it off or fit a stronger clutch.

My Bora pd130 engine could take a higher remap than the clutch could, so I kept it under deliberately.

B207 Saabs do as well... clutch good for about 260hp, maps go to 300.

Erm 18bhp and 80ft/lbs to bring it from 8 to in the 5s...
Anyway, if a manual then clutch. If auto then gotta dig deeper as they handle a lot ot torque.

if yr goin to mess with origional design at the motor you can probrably expect to have to upgrade downstream components.know its easy to be wise after the fact but sometimes better to research first , some motors and drive lines are far more tolerant of upgrades than others..

a mate had his Fiat coupe chipped (2 ltr turbo, 6 speed) and was complaining about a funny noise, we went up the road and I said its just lighting up the left wheel all the time. All the way from first to third in cold damp conditions it would just spin up like crazy. Being rear drive yours won't be doing this

that's an odd reply...

raise power and it puts added pressure on other elements, in the case of the original poster it suggests his was a manual. I would suggest this is more likely and as with any manual, driver behavior can very easily negatively impact the clutch life expectancy.

With a worn clutch and lots more power, nature takes its usual lazy course and would rather escape trashing his flywheel than turning the back wheels. The only solution is to remove the gearbox and replace... (between 650 and 1200 depending on who and what they fit...)

Note: an auto is also full of clutches and these can let go. They have wet multiplate clutches inside the gearbox and these could cost lots more to fix. And here the manufacturer can impact things in software. My 335d had a software update on the box to reduce the stress on the driveline.... in a moment of utter incompetence they decided that a box easily capable of 800nm should be torque limited and post software update it reads engine management parameters and when reaching a projected output releases a clutch inside from then on around 500nm mark (damaging itself).

Of course this criminality long term will destroy the box when the rest of the car is perfectly OK. I didn't know but its easily fixed on BMWs, and you can apply software to do the exact opposite of BMW's stupid update, so it comfortably handles 900nm (which is where just about anyone can get the 3 ltr twin turbo tractor) .... oh, they pushed it to 1000nm now !!! animals ;) https://www.xhpflashtool.com/
