My boys Clio is due for the dreaded annual insurance laugh in.

Present insurer - Churchill - £750
Direct Line - £1500
O2 - £2300

Admiral - £430

All policy , details excesses are very similar but one thing i was told was that he cant protect his NCB until he has at least four claim free years , when did that rule come into play ?

Whenever it suits then :(

At 21 I had a 3 yr old Camaro, 5.75 litre. I think it was maybe £125?

Can you imagine trying to get a quote for that now.....

I'm sure insurance companies make up the rules as they go along....

My Aviva quote is £604, tried two comparison sites and best is £640, I had hoped to find better but it looks like my insurer for the past two years is still the cheapest, just.

Went through this charade recently with the youth on first car at 17 same car went from £1650 to £6,250 and higher.

We found it was much better "value" to pick a more unusual car for instance he could insure a bigger Alfa for less than a clio.

My thoughts were swayed by crash protection.

Admiral were always cheapest for my kids but bizarrely jumped up when they turned 25 - same happened to both of them.

You used to be able to play Admiral companies off against each other - Bell always gave the lowest price for my youngest, and the call centre operators can see all the quotes. No idea if that still works.

£430 looks very low compared to the other premiums though. My youngest is in her 30's and just renewed at mid £300's on a Honda Jazz. I thought that seemed high and did a quick scout around for her but others were similar or dearer.

If Admiral are still doing it I recommend their rapid NCB policy. 12mth worth earnt in 10. Spend 2 years with them (20mths) then use the NCD built up to escape early to a cheaper policy.

The original Admiral quote was just over £500 , with me on the policy it dropped to the £430 , it would have been £400 but it was an extra £30 for the legal cover.

No black box either , which the others insisted on , but we wont tell him that so he thinks we are still keeping an eye on his driving score :D

I wouldnt a GPS tracker for Scott , bed / kitchen /college / kitchen / bed / kitchen / work / bed. He would be hopeless on "Hunted" just search the local KFC or Bensons for Beds and they would find him straight away.

All insurance companies will try to squirm out of paying when you make a claim, so go for ther cheap one and don't expect much!

Was with Hastings for 2 years at around £280.

Renewal jumped up to £420

Tried them all and Aviva came at a ridiculous £740 even with 15 years ncd!

Went on Money saving expert and got another quote from Hastings for a lower £225 - phoned up and got it - so explain that if anyone can.

Had the same with them for the kids. Hastings Last year £1680, renewal £960, same cover with Hastings through go compare £600. No prizes for guessing which way I went. They are obviously much keener to get new business than they are to keep existing customers.

Maybe it all adds to the CEO's yearly bonus payout where he can say "look at all this new business I've created" without saying how much was lost, to get it.

Its simple, a man in a trance sits in a darkened room chanting tables he's called an actuary.
In the next room sits an ex bookie working out odds.
In the next room sits a kevin there's always a Kevin and he has a shiny suit and a computer.
In the next room is a floor covered in squares and wandering freely around is a pigeon, he dumps in squares.
Kevin takes all their information, the weather, past claims etc and comes up with a number he hopes you will pay.

I'm unsure if they are in different rooms though.

Probably in a large room with tinted glass, deep pile carpet, air conditioning and fantastic views most would die for. Each with their back to the other looking out on the vista. Sending e-mails to each other as they are above turning inward and conversing with each other. An observation from experience :geek:

You’re missing the Segways and mini Ben & Jerrys freezer in the corner :)
