Sourcing an affordable W124 ECU?

Following on from my earlier post re: Intermittent engine shut down, does anyone have any tips for finding an affordable ECU?

I will find out early next week - it turns out that my father-in-law has a friend who is an automotive electrics wizard. (Now he tells me). The chap is taking a look at the car early next week and I should know by Wednesday evening.

If I do need an ECU I'll let you know asap.
