If its a saloon or estate it will be south african, the coupes are currently in german production.
They may come from south africa but they are still a merc!
Theres no quality difference
I am cautious,I do not buy cars at the beginning of a production run.I wait until the bugs are ironed out & modifications embodied.
I have considerable faith in the thoroughness of Germans & their quality of workmanship.
Cars emerging from Singelfingen reflect these qualities. The plant is long established with an experienced workforce.
Transfer of manufacture to another country & an inexperienced production line workforce inevitably results, initially, in significant problems & errors, despite stringent inspection at all levels.
This, ably assisted by German thoroughness will decrease with experience & time.
Until that time is gained, I would exercise considerable
caution.
As far as I am aware, the South Africans have been building mercs for years. Something to do with there import laws. They were sent there in kit form and built by South Africans. If any thing I would expect them to have more experience than the Americans, who seem to be having problems ref the early M classes.
