Hello forumites,
I have a 2009 Vredestein Spacesaver which does inflate, but only if I connect it to a compressor with more air flow than the 12v unit the car came with.

It won't inflate with the little 12v compressor that comes with the car.
It won't inflate on the air lines at a garage forecourt (these seem a lot slower today then 20 years ago - health and safety maybe reduced output).

I don't have room to carry a compressor. So when I need to use my spare, away from home I am screwed unless I can find someone with a higher output air line than the ones accessible.

It looks like the spacesaver beading doesn't get enough force to seal it when inflating with the lower output air lines - the air just leaks out where rim and tyre should seal. The more powerful air lines seem to force the space savers beads into place and it inflates without any issues.

Has anyone else had this issue, is the space saver past it's best and need replacing? If it is the beads - can they be re-sealed so it works OK?

Don't want to be 50,000 miles from home with Claudia Schiffer in the car and not be able to get her back home. I imagine you can all understand the dilemma.
Thanks :)

I presume that the space saver leaks then…take it to a tyre place to fix it, then should Claudia be in your car, you will know that you can reliably get her home

Thanks. I have/had no understanding of whether these can be repaired or not. Definitely worth a try, thanks.

I now feel a bit daft for not just going and asking at a tyre place now you've said it Foxhat :) . ..I'm not thinking so clearly in this summer's heat wave.

Thanks :)

We used to have one on the SLK.....the bead was always on the rim though so the power of the compressor did not enter into it. Something not right there.....unless there are different sorts.
Ours looked like this.

Perfect, that is a lot like mine.
Off to the local tyre fitters then and see if they can fix it.
Thanks :)
