Spare wheel bolt pack missing

With my space saver spare wheel the standard alloy bolts are used.
It is probably not the same for every model, because MB wouldn't provide a separate bolt kit unless it was needed.
Worth trial fitting the space saver to make sure, though?

Yes I do , when it's dry I'll see if the spare has a sticker on it saying use certain bolts . If it doesn't I'll test fit the spare wheel with the alloy bolts

Yes I do , when it's dry I'll see if the spare has a sticker on it saying use certain bolts .

There was a service measure to put these stickers on wheels, where required. IIRC the issue is the standard bolts are too long and interfere with the rear brakes.

I guess the lack of sticker is no certainty though. I imagine they must have redesigned the space saver so the bolts didn't protrude any further than on the alloys.

My R Class had the shorter bolts for the steel spare in a long slim plastic bag ..... pretty sure my ML has shorter bolts too (somewhere)

Assuming you are looking for wheel bolts for your W211 E Class , Alloywheelsdirect list the same size bolt for both the 16" steel wheel and up to 19" alloy wheels. They should be M14x1.5mm thread pitch and 27mm long according to their info.

Coincidently I stopped today to help a woman who had lost ALL the bolts on her VW van spare. It had aftermarket alloys & a tyre place had fitted a steel spare with the wrong bolts. 4 of the 5 bolts had worked their way out & one was sheared. All the bolt holes in the wheel were goosed & it turned out that all the threads in the hub were goosed too. The steel wheel was at the front near side and amazingly was still in the wheel arch and kind of holding the VW up. I've no idea how she didn't end up in a ditch somewhere (Though she did tell me she'd stopped earlier as something didnt feel right but then carried on regardless despite her 2 kids & 3 dogs in the car :eek:)

Thanks AMG (see what I did there :geek:) , looks like I've got some measuring to do later :D

image.jpeg Emergency averted folks ! The E class spare wheel has no sticker on it saying use shorter bolts (and obviously no short bolt pack) .
The picture is of an E class alloy wheel bolt (on the Left) and a CLK wheel lock nut (the CLK has a short bolt pack for the spare) . So quite obviously it is intended to use the same bolt on the E class for steel and alloys .

check a benz breaker for same model, chances are they have never opened the box/packet did not ought to cost much.

As above buddy , my model E class doesn't need them , bolts are short enough for alloy and steel wheels :D

I was trying to think of an appropriate user name when I first joined and at the time was interested in buying a CL55K.
AMG(eed) seem to fit the bill.

My 212 E350 2011 has a full size steel wheel spare. There is a black box which normally holds the spare wheel nuts, but there is only the locking key in there.
My wife's SLK 170 2010 has a space saver. That also has a black box with the shorter bolts & the locking key.
As a matter of interest where was your locking key?

My wife's SLK 170 2010 has a space saver. That also has a black box with the shorter bolts & the locking key.
As a matter of interest where was your locking key?

The bolts in the black box with the lock nut key are those removed when the locking bolts were fitted & not to be confused with the shorter bolts that might be needed to fit a steel spare.

The black box holds the locking key , and it should either contain 4 wheel locking bolts , or 4 non locking wheel bolts that have been replaced by the locking bolts .
If your spare wheel has a yellow warning sticker on saying use the shorter bolts , they will be in a clear plastic circle thingy , with 5 bolts in it for the spare only
