I am looking for the extra seats to put in my 200T, to give me seven seats. Anyone know of a breakers yard etc... where I may be able to pick these up?
Thanks again.
I live in Andover and to the best of my knowledge there is no Merc. breaker here. I use Mercman in Southampton Tel no. 02380 784 444, fax.02380 782 444
Mobile 0956 557 960. There are quite a few in the London area some of whom advertise in the Association magazine.
Try www.mercedesusedparts.co.uk also i got a new front arm rest, i'm pretty sure that came from Mercman, i think they have a web site something like www.mercman.co.uk the exchange and mart is a good place to look for breakers, thats where i got these ones from.
I recently used 'The Garage' for used spares. I was very satisfied - they seem to have a whole range of stuff, mail order or collect. They advertise on this site and in the club magazine. Might be worth checking out.
Be a bit careful with some of the 'breakers'. A couple of years ago I had a 190E with a whine from the diff (a fairly common 190E problem - worn pinion bearings).
I 'phoned one of the largest MB 'specialist breakers' who regularly advertise in E&M and Autotrader (not The Garage, BTW) and they quoted me about £300 for a 'fully reconditioned' diff.
Anyhow, I received the diff. and was pretty shocked at the sorry mess that they'd sent me. The diff was (poorly) painted with black paint that was still tacky and the vent tube was bent over and crushed. I decided to look inside and took off the back cover. There was pitting and rust spots on the crownwheel; some 'blueing' on the gears, dirt, grit and even some water inside. The 'reconditioned' diff was obviously just a well-worn secondhand unit that had been hanging around the yard for a few months.
I telephoned the breakers (based in North of England) and made my complaint. They said they would take the diff back, but with a 25% deduction and they were very agressive in their approach to me. I mentioned Trading Standards and Small Claims Court and they dropped it to a 10% deduction - still a rip-off, but I didn't feel like arguing.
I will be very wary of ordering from these places in future - particularly since the outfit in question is big and has a very smart website - I wonder what the smaller places are like.
I have a catalogue from 'The Garage' and I note that their prices are not that cheap.
BTW, I eventually got my diff rebuilt for £280 including installation. It was done by Nicol Transmissions of Kidderminster. The job was done brilliantly and the proprietor, Nick Bevin, is a very professsional guy. I was most impressed with his service.
Exactly the reasons why I tend not to use breakers. I have mentioned in posts before about the risks involved. Especially if you are not sure of what you want or how to tell if its any good. There was a posting where a guy bought a wiper motor, due to a fault on his. Then bought the same fault on the second hand one. People don't realise that the vehicle it's come off has probably covered a similar millage. Therefore stands a high chance of having the same fault.
I have seen the following breakers advertised in Mercedes Enthusiast magazine, though i have not as of yet used them so cant say if they any good or not.

I have used Mercland once for a centre arm rest, they were very good, and reasonably priced, BUT there web site is very distressing to all us Merc fanatics, seeing all the pictures of crashed Merc's!!
