wont that be the sunroof?????:)

you may have 6, 4 in front doors and 2 in rear...you could have 7 which will mean the thing in the middle of the dash is a sub woofer.

you could have 9 which means you have got some tweeters shoved in the top of the doors or dash area.....

am not sure if the do the 11 speaker hardon karmen! (hahah) thing in that but if they do you will have another 2 speakers somewhere to create a surround effect.

as far as i am concerned the warranty should cover the car as it left the dealer with the bits it left the dealer with...so yes..unless someone knows more!!!

you should be able to locate your speakers by moving round the car listening to some music...best not have it loud though. you can help by adjusting the left/right balance and front/back fader to get the sound into the corners and then check. they are normally hidden behind a mesh.

Thanks

Got the thing on the dash - seriously thought it was an air vent - looks 9" and got two in the door corners and two larger ones on the back shelf.

The thing in the middle of the roof is aprrox 4" in diameter - roof coloured - possibly the infra red sensors for the alarm?

looked at the manual, no joy.

Sounds like the rear passenger shelf spaker is vibarating too much on playing the cd or a radio station that has good clear transmissiom.

Will phone stealership in a few days - they will say bring her in.

I think that this comes under fair wear and tear, If the drive unit has been run at excessive volume and the cone suspension is damaged, then it will be down to you, other than that ask them.

I think if the dealer told me that a speaker was wear and tear I'd be advising him to go out, think, and come back in again. Really it shouldn't be possible to blow a speaker with the standard stereo. It should be rated sufficiently highly that it can cope with whatever the head unit throws at it. Rather like them telling you the car can do 120 but the brakes are only rated to 80. Ok, when you put your own head unit in, it's your problem, but, as a youf, I always used to make sure whatever speakers I had, had a higher rating than the head unit I fitted. In any case, I suspect that for the cost of a speaker they're not going to argue.

Unfortunatly JB the physics you describe do not work the same way with Amps and loudspeakers. A small amp will blow the loudspeakers easier than a large one. the reason being that anything much past 7 O clock with the volume setting and the amp puts out DC, this in turn heats the speech coil and deforms it or burns it out in the case of a tweeter. You will be hard pushed to find the spec of a loudspeaker running in a free air situation (car speaker) A bass reflex speaker can only handle half the power of a air tight enclosure. In this case we are talking a 6.5" speaker in free air, as said in my first posting, with the bass on full, and the volume to high you will knock the suspension out, and in my veiw that is unreasonable use. to compare it to a car, then its like running the car at max revs in lock up all day, you can do so if you wish

My Background, I was sole service in the UK for, Yamaha & Nakamichi 1971-1980. Conrad Johnson,Cello,Harmon Kardon,Teac,Tascam,JBL, 1984-1988.
In Sweden, Musical fidelity, Micro mega, Mission. I have serviced loudspeakers costing more than £100,000 back then.

Thanks Malcolm, I'll bow to your greater knowledge on the subject. However, my theory should work on most service managers even it if isn't factually correct!

Sorry JB if I am horrible at times,I wish that I could answer threads the way you do, and I mean that. Sadly MB charge anything up to £100 for a driver, s many are 1ohm impedence,or they were up to 2000. Where can you buy a loudspeaker with that spec other than MB. I wanted to change my Bose speakers but finding anything like was impossible.

Back to the original question, yes your theory is correct, make them change it

Malcolm

I will try and have a better day
