Hi all,
Can't figure this one out. I have speed dial set up on my 6310i so when I hold 2 it rings home. Tried this on my audio 20 and it called the wife's mobile instead. 1 still calls the answerphone so that seems to be correct but the rest don't tie up with the phone.
I can't find any mention in the manual. Any ideas?

I would also like to know the answer to this. I use SpeedDial one (via Orange) to dial my voice-mail but I need to use the handset to do it this way. I got around this by making my voice-mail number an address book entry but I would like to SpeedDial.

Anyone know if you can SMS via the keypad? The Audio 20 alerts you when a SMS has been received.

oddly the speed dial 1 (voicemail) works ok on mine. The rest also seem to work but just don't necessarily call the numbers I expect them to!
I even removed speed dial 2 from the phone, tested it to make sure (phone complained that there was nothing in that memory) and then held 2 on the audio 20 - it rang the wife's mobile again!
I'm sure there's logic there somewhere but I can't find it.

I'll try my 1 speed dial again. It is the 6230i I have and I think this uses a different cradel from the 6310i.

I've literally just sorted this same problem out on my E320 CDi Estate this very week - NB it does have a factory fitted UHI cradle for the 6310i.

Tthis was all I did :

Backed up phone content using Nokia PC Suite 4.88 - and checked it had really backed up !

Then cleared phone memories and reset to factory defaults.
Default security code is 12345 - use only once though.

Then keyed into SIM memory the 9 names and numbers in the strict sequence you want them to be on speed dials starting with
Voicemail - in my case 242
then your second number
then your third number
then your fourth
etc through to nine

Switched speed dialling ON (in phone)
Did not even assign in the phone yet.

Put in cradle and started car and switched on COMAND and ....ALL SORTED.
(or at least mine was - it has only taken me 2 months)

So it sounds like it works off the first 9 slots on the sim card irrespective of which speed dial button you assign on the phone. Unfortunately, there is no way to tell which slot holds which number so clearing the sim card and rekeying would be the only way to do it. It would explain why voicemail works on 1 as this will be on the sim from the factory.

You can amend the Voicemail number if you wish - I cleared mine and then rekeyed it in myself as first entry in SIM.
FTR I keyed in Phone and SIM memory versions of all 9 names/numbers, in the right order and differentiated the SIM ones by using only lower case.

COMAND shows (as does speedo centre display) it uses the lower case (so SIM version) when triggering speed dial from COMAND keypad on dash.

I still can't get any of the speed dials to work from the console at all.

Do you press and hold the number keys or press the number key then the dial key?

I've ensured Speed Dial is enabled on my 6230i handset.

I've tryied to understand the previous post and I'm unsure if you mean that it could it be that the Command accesses the SIM numbers rather than phone stored numbers.?!?!?

Press & hold for about 2-3 secs.

Yes SIM is the memory it uses.

Should I change my phone settings so it is using the Sim Card memory then? I can't set some of the numbers for Sim, I think it is all or nothing on phone memory or sim memory.

I have mine set to Phone & SIM.

Have you assigned speed dials in phone ?
If yes, then you could try clearing them and trying in cradle again.

You can alway re-assign later.

G

PS Remember mine is a UHI cradle and a 6310i phone

Are you sure your's works via the phone's assigned speed dial and not via the sim location which co-incidentally ties up?
To test it, I deleted one of the speed dials so pressing and holding 2 on the phone merely caused it to ask me to assign one. I then popped it in the cradle and held 2 on the console. The phone rang the same number it always did. I then reassigned the speed dial to the Mrs's mobile and put the phone back in the cradle again. Pressed and held 2 on the phone and it called the mobile as expected. Hung up and did the same with the console 2 button - it rang the same number it always does. I'm not even certain what that number is but I assume its probably whatever is in slot 2 on the sim card.
Mine is also a 3210i on a UHI cradle (I assume - its the later, 05 interchangeable cradle kit) so my assumption is that speed dial as set up on the phone doesn't actually work over the cradle.

I tried swapping all my contacts to the sim and this made no difference. I get a "Tel Error" on the console. When the numbers are back on the phone, I get no response when holding down a number.

What is 'UHI' is this a 3rd party cradle?

It looks like I have the official MB UHI kit, any ides why I can't get the results I'm looking for?

Every other feature works, why not the speed-dial?

Just messed mine up by deleting the number entries that were duplicated in phone. Thought I didn't need both !
Have re-enterde as below and now it works again.
This is what I did - first cleared phone totally.
Created the first nine Name & Number entries in the SIM memory to match the speed dials I wanted.
Next created identical Name & Number entries in Phone in same sequence prefixing Name with the position in speed dial that I wanteds
i.e. 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9.
Note : I left a space between prefix and name
e.g. 1 VoiceMail 2 Wife

Then checked it all worked in car - takes a while to load circa 1 minute.
Then assigned speed dials on phone itself - without a problem.

When you use the speed dial off the car, which entry comes up on the display?
I assume it will be the sim entries whereas if you do speed dial off the phone, it will report the phone entries.
If this is right it confirms that the speed dial function on the car kit simply dials the first 9 entires on the sim card and doesn't take any notice of the speed dial setup in the phone.

Yes, I agree, when I copied my phoen book to the SIM and tried the speed-dial in the car, I get "Tel Error" on the display.

Finally sorted it.

Following the info on this thread, I did the following.
I wanted 'home' on speed dial 2. It worked fine off the phone but not off the console where it rang the mobile of an old collegue that I haven't spoke to in years.
1) deleted any details for 'home' from my phone.
2) Pressed and held 2 on the console and watched the phone's display
I made a note of the number that came up.
3) Found than number in the phone's memory and after making a note of the details so I could re-add it later, I EDITED it to be my Home entry.
4) pressed and held 2 on the console again - this time it called 'home' as I wanted.
5) Finally I re-added speed dial 2 to home on the phone.
6) Add back the number I overwrote.
6) repeat for other speed dials.
So basically, there is no connection between phone speed dial and the car's so you have to make them work together by co-incidence.

Hmm..mine (facelift W203 with UHI, 6310i phone) shows the contents of both the sim card and the phone memory, even thought the phone is set to sim card only.
I don't appear to get any alert when I get a text, which is annoying, and calendar alerts etc, don't work.
The whole thing seems a bit random.
