Same old questions I guess but I seem to have hit a problem installing my Pioneer AVIC X1r into my C200 Coupe. (2002)

I have successfully installed the Pioneer AVIC-X1r Navigation unit complete and all works fine however, I’m confused as to where to connect the single Speed pulse wire - I have purchased a CAN01BUS adapter for converting the CAN Hi and CAN lo signal to a single analogue signal the navigation unit requires, however, I am stumbling to figure out where to connect it. I have been informed by a college who has recently installed a CANBUS adapter that I should pick-up a light green and light green and white striped pair of wires in the Drivers side foot well to connect to the CAB01BUS unit - However, after doing this I lost my ESP and BAS system until I removed the connection? I was informed that the CAN signal at the C connecter (pins 1 & 2) at the rear of the AUDIO 10 unit I removed were not strong enough to drive the CAN01BUS unit hence connecting it in the foot well. However, the wires are Brown at the C connector? I have located posts in the forum stating they may be a direct analogue pulse signal available on pin 3 of plug 24 in the engine bay directly under the fuse box? Can anybody advise the best place to pick-up the Speed pulse signal (CAN or Analogue) on my W203? (VIN: WDB2037452A343314)?

Thanks in Advance

Not sure if this is any help but I have fitted taximeters into W203 estates 51reg, if you need the same speed pulse it is available under the fuses in the fusebox in the engine bay offside rear corner, it is an analogue signal and it is a small diameter wire seems to go up into the middle of the underside and I think it is one of three wires in a plug, it is either black/green trace or green/black trace, sorry cant check for you dont have the cars any more.

I did look up your old threads regarding this your W203 but only thing mentioned was a response from "television" stating that the CANBUS Hi/Lo signal can be picked up from left foot well? I'm totally confused now as I have been told a verity of different wire colours in both the left and right (drivers) foot well and also your advice regarding the under bonnet fuse box analogue signal?

Thanks for the advice anyway, I will take a look when the misses brings the car back later today.

I thought the speed pulse was readily available in a greeen/white wire in the (N/S) front passenger's footwell (under the door trim plate) and no canbus adapter was required.

That would make it all much easier! On the Drivers side foot well there are about 4 to 5 pairs (light green & light green and white) but I was lead to believe this is the CANBUS. The saga continues with yet another option. I need advise from an expert. I tried MB dealer but it’s like trying to get blood out of a stone! They are just not interested. Anyway, thanks jberk.

John, the canbus wires are in pairs twisted together, green is can low and green/white is can high, if you want to use your canbus interface have a look under the n/s footwell kickplate find the transmission control unit fixed to the plate, should be a twisted pair to that, did you get instructions with the canbus interface? do not cut the canbus wires, you must connect the correct wires from the interface to the correct canbus wires and the unit needs ignition power and earth.

OK, when you say n/s kick plate are you referring to the forward part of the foot well where you rest your feet? I take it you pull the carpet back and remove the plate? I have been looking for the wires in the trunking that runs on the floor alongside the passenger set? I have already connected the power; ground and analogue signal to the nav unit just need to sort where to pick the wires up. I know that the green is Can Lo and the green/white is the CAN Hi? The instructions that came with the CAN01BUS however states the colours are Brown and Brown/red stripe?

Yes the metal plate under your carpet, its held with plastic 10mm nuts, in my instructions that came with the interface you can also use canbus pairs in the drivers footwell, I stripped back a bit of insulation from the wires and soldered onto them without cutting them

Cheers Malcolm,

I thought they may be brown wires judging by the wire connected at the C connector at the back of the Audio 10 unit. Can you please be a little more specific where Connector point X30/7 is in relation to the n/s side of car (under foot plate for example)?

Thanks
John

The cables remain the same colours the X boxes reffered to are junction boxes where the things all plug in.With out the plugs you cant use them.

Just melt the plastic with a soldering iron, solder the wires and tape up

Steve / Malcolm

OK, all done and dusted!

I couldn’t wait until tomorrow, I thought I would just try connecting the CAN01BUS unit to the Audio 10 "C" (most) connector that has been unplugged to make way for the Nav system (Pin 1: :Brown/Red; CAN Hi. & Pin 2, Brown; CAN Lo) and hey presto, speed pulse works fine.

So that’s, Hand-brake, reversing lights, speed pulse, rear camera, MP3 player inn, etc, all connected only think left to do is a illumination input from the w203 lighting so the display screen switches between day and night view. This is the third time I have fitted this NAV system; motor home, Navara Pick-up and now the W203, and by far this is the most complex due to the amount of trimmings and fixtures to dismount and remove, anyway all done now so thanks again to both of you for your help. It’s much appreciated.

John
