Hi. Can anybody tell me if my 2006 Cls 320 has speed sensitive steering on it.
I expect so as it's based on the W211 chassis and my face-lift late 06 E320 CDI had it as standard.

Thanks for the reply. Its just that i had some mounts put on the car and ever since the steering is heavier at slow speeds and you need a bit of muscle to turn the wheel when its stationary. My son has a sl500 and you can turn the wheel with one finger.
Apparently you cant buy new solenoids for them so i've been hearing ?

Isn't there a plug on the rack that lightens the steering?
Has it been disturbed, or the cable to it damaged?

Rear speed sensor malfunction will stiffen parametric steering too.

I've no experience of working on these but seem to remember similar on my previous C320 (2005). So I guess it gets a signal from the ECU to lighten up below what ever speed.
'If' that is a signal applied at low speed can you check it's getting that when stationary? Of course if it's applied when above a speed that's more difficult.
And if it's a solenoid on the rack a multimeter on K ohms should check that for continuity.

I've booked it in at Halfords for one of their free steering tests now so hopefully the fault will show up on their diagnostic machine.
ive just been looking online for a new solenoid but although there is plenty on ebay i cant find one for my car.

Parts usually have specific number to identify them, that can often help to find one via google.
It might also help if you ring Mercedes parts dept with it.

Speed sensitive so less assistance the faster you go

Yep that's what my C320 had.
As a solenoid, as has been suggested to be on the rack, is on / off, it would suggest that the signal is analogue to a valve. Otherwise a sudden shut off of assistance would be felt.

I put in my Vin number and got a list up but no mention of Speed sensors.

Of course you have speed sensors, VIN code tells if you have speedsensitive/parametric steering....
