Hi Chaps,

I bought my car (below) recently, when I get up to about 75mph it starts to shake, by the time it gets to 90 it feels like a shuttle on re-entry!

What could it be?

It could be a few things, wheel balancing out, buckled wheel, caked on mud on the wheels, propshaft out of balance. Do you feel the vibration through the wheel or the seat. Generally through the wheel is the front and through the seat is the rear.

My W202 does this at exactly the same speeds as yours Beetle. I am assuming it is the wheels, neither front has any balance weights on them and only one rear has weights ( I had that balanced after a puncture) It is impossible to tell if it is front or rear, you can feel it through the wheel and the seat.
I will get the wheels balanced soon, but to be honest, I rarely exceed 70 at the moment so I am not too concerned, all mostly short non motorway driving for now.
Let us know how you get on.

My E280 is fine until it hits 70, after 80 it's fine...

Same in my partners SL500... I thought it was just Mercs lol

If I had to call it, I'd say that I can feel it mostly through the wheel. The car also pulls to the left (at any speed), is this likely to be related?

Get all of the wheels balanced. The vibration apart from being uncomfortable is not good for the car. It should disappear.

As Olaf say, get the wheels balanced, that's always the case when you can drive into and out of the shaking zone.

I had all sorts of wobble & balancing issues that were a pain to pinpoint & took the advice off here to do a 4 wheel alignment..... all sorted!!

Always a very good idea if you buy a secondhand car, the previous owner may have bumped up and down kerbs or pot holes, the car will handle better, the tyre life will be increased and it will have a nicer feel.
