In bright sunlight and wearing sunglasses, I find the analogue speedometer a bit dark and difficult to read. So I tend to look at the small digital display in the lower part of the speedo.

Unfortunately it is in km/h, so I have to do a mental conversion! Does anyone know how to change this to mph? The manual is unhelpful and even the salesman didn't know.

It can't be done...because the law requires both mph and kph to be displayed in the UK. I suspect you only have MPH on your analogue. Salesmen don't know much, do they?

Although, someone with STAR could do it...not a dealer though.

Do the newer models not have the ability to display a large digital mph in the cluster? I can in the CLS and could in the S203.

Yes, if the speedo is a display rather than a traditional dial it can be changed in the cluster menu.

Do you mean a Comand setting and display in the screen?

If the E350 is the same as my S350, the speedo is a displayed image, not an actual dial.
In the dashboard cluster menu it can be changed between MPH and KPH.

It can only be changed by having 'UK mode deletion' via STAR. A dealer wont do this for you. Once done you can select to display the speed in mph or kmph so if you went europe you can switch it back to kmph. You can also select to display the outside temperature instead.

Now here's a thing. I was fidding with the audio settings and a side-effect (I'm sure not directly related) is that the speed in MPH, is now displayed digitally in the speedo where the trip and total mileage figures used to be. Which is fine, and even better than what I was seeking, but I'm not clear why it happened!

I'm sure I'll get used to all this weirdness......... eventually!

You can display loads of things in the dash display area, such as radio station current consumption, average speed, duration of driving.
You need to experiment with the available menus after reading the owners manual.

The paper owners manual is near useless. Most of the useful stuff is on the "Digital Owners Manual" which has to be installed in the car. The dealer didn't bother to do this.

I am also using a PDF owners manual downloaded from MB USA. It contains more than the UK paper version.

Has anyone managed to install the digital manual on a PC?

I loaded the CD version of my CLS handbook onto my PC, no problems.

If you have an Android phone you could use the Torque BHP analogue speedo on dash mount.
