Hi, new to this! I've just bought a C220 diesel 1995 N auto from a police seizure auction. 106k service history to 78k. I expected a few problems for the price I paid 1100GBP. I drove it off using key fob to open car/ turn immobilzer off etc. Noticed speedo wasn't working or odometer. engine revved exessively before pulling away but then ok after. I stopped at services to get something to eat & locked car up. When I returned key fob wouldn't work. Called AA after I had changed batteries to no avail. AA man tried to bypass immobiliser but after 4 hrs he gave up. Good job I had home relay isn't it. AA man assertained that I probably need a new fob as there was no signal coming from mine. Have ordered one from MB. I think rear brake pads need changing as hand brake goes down too far and abs light & brake pad light are constantly on, are these all connected? I'm hoping there are relatively simple solutions to these problems or my wife will come out with so many I told you so's!! The reason I took the chance was the fact that when seized by the police the vehicle was being driven by owner, so there couldn't be that much wrong could there?? Also my sister has got exactly the same model n year except mines auto esprit & hers is manual classic. She has had no problems in 3 years. Euro Taxis!! There is enough here for someone to get their teeth into. Thanks for any help N light you could shed on the situation. Karim

None of these issues is a problem in isolation, but it does imply general neglect. I'd have it inspected by a trusted specialist - ideally an MOT equipped one and get them to report on the overall condition and list recommended repairs. Then at least you have a chance of knowing exactly what needs doing before starting to spend money, and you will be aware of any safety related issues that may not be immediately evident.
Remember, your sisters, my Dad's etc are all trouble free, partially because they are excellent motors but also because they have been properly maintained. A neglected roller can become an unreliable deathtrap if left long enough.

Post where you are and you'll get some recommendations.
That's the nice thing about buying a quality motor, even a neglected one, a little TLC and they soon come back up to scratch.

I live in Bury Lancashire BL8 4AG. Trustworthy grease monkeys are worth their weight in gold!! I've bought the Haynes manual but it may as well be in Japanese !! I also got a diagnostic cd off ebay. It offers the suggestion that my problem with my auto gearbox could be clutch bands?? Its very responsive in reverse. Just not in first. Help Me Please. I run a Frankie & Bennys in Salford Quays and am very hospitable

99% of your faults are related to incorrect jump starting, and being in a police pound for some time, it has been jump started. You must check that you have 12volt going to your ABS ECU and all others on your car, If you have a OVR the fuse on top could be gone, you cant go any further till you know the above is OK.
