speedo problem?

hello all i am new here! we have just bought a 92 300d for my girlfriend, its a very nice car, runs and drives very well, i have checked it over very thoroughly, and the only problem it has is that the speedo jumps back and forth and makes an annoying ticking noise! at around 35mph it levels out and behaves normally! any suggestions welcome! thanks in advance mark.

This phenomenom is quite normal but yours seems quite extreme. Mine settles down by about 20mph.

I think the problem lies with your speedo cable, Disconect the cable and check the inner cable. I suspect that the cause is either wear or too much or too little grease on the inner cable.
