I've been to the Museum of Life today in Kent, took the wife and son there for a stroll round the farm. (The East Sussex MG owners club showed up there today too - I felt like a traitor looking at their V8's !!!)

Anyways.... when I went to pull out of the car park, which is in a kinda forest area, a thick root of a tree had wedged and anchored itself under my bumper and when I reversed up I heard an almighty thump as the bumper pulled out and split - BUGGER !!!

You can't see it luckily, unless you bend down and have a good look.

I've used Araldite Glue to try and bond the split back together but anyone have any advice out of interest ?

Warning... beware of the forest !

Cheers.... JON

Thanks for sorting the volume of posts made, it wasn't done on purpose, I promise.

As Malcolm says... it was the 14.00 hrs bug !

there are kits on the market but if you cant see it I would have pop riveted a metal plate along the bottom edge over the split providing it was out of sight without laying down to see it

Ok,

As for the bumper rather than try and glue it you could remove it, grind out the back of the crack then plastic weld it. That way the bumper will be as strong as it was originally and the crack will not spread.
If you don't feel like doing the plastic welding yourself (kits available) just have a search on Google as there are many companies doing this, especially for the bikers ;-)

It would be useful to know what type of "plastic" the item is made from, certain types like polypropylene (some parts will have the material description moulded in e.g.PP in a little circle for polyprop), can not be glued or bonded and must be welded. If the material is suitable for bonding you could glue the mating faces together, but I would advise strengthening the reverse side with grp or a fibre filled resin.

On a related note, I have just fitted a new front bumper to my C32 after my wife had a minor parking incident.....

Question is, should I have the old one repaired and primered to offer for sale?? A new AMG front bumper is the best part of £700. Do you think there would be any demand for it or should I just throw it away???

Repairs can be done by bolting in a plate as suggested. If you can do it really neatly you can countersink fixings that will not be seen. A very slight thicknessing in the area can be concealed by good filler and painting. I did one a number of years ago on a painted bumper and it came out perfect at a fraction of the cost.
