My Sprinter has an intermitent fault that only comes out once or twice every two to three months.
The local Daimler Benz dealer has had the vehicle on their computer and cannot find the the fault.
When I start the vehicle and drive away, I can immediately feel there is no power being developed by the engine. Because I am now used to this happening, I immediatley look at the speedo, and it is not registering i.e. the needle is on zero even though the vehicle is movin at 20km per hour at least. If I continue to drive the vehicle has a distinct lack of power and the speedo continues to not work.
If I stop the vehicle, switch the engine off, and immediately restart it and drive off, the speedo is working again and the full power is back again.
There is a definite connection between the lack of power and the speedo not working.
My guess is, there is a signal from the speedo that has to be in place for the turbo to gain boost pressure, in other words, the speedo has to confirm the vehicle is moving forward before the turbo can increase boost pressure, and when the speedo doesn't work, as in my case, this signal does not go through to increase the turbo boost pressure. If my theory is correct, what might be causing this fault??
As I say this is only a very intermitent fault that does not occur very often, but I would love to know what it is and what I have to do to correct it.
Has anybody had a similar experience, and what was the problem??
Many thanks in advance.
