Hi everyone! Have a 2003 316DL Sprinter with 128,000KM.Battery warning light came on whilst driving.Once home attempted to restart van.No start.Multimeter read 12.1V.Recharged battery over a 8HR period to its maximum recharge voltage of 14 5V.A couple of hours later meter reading was 12.5V.A couple of days later it was 12.34V.Is the battery a gonner?Connection to the battery looked OK,though took connections apart for a clean anyway.15AMP fuseable link between positive terminal and black 1" cubic box screwed to the chassie OK.What does this black box do?Are there anyother fuseable links in the engine bay to look for?Checked fuse board on stearing column. All OK.Do the relays have any bearing on the charge system?Restarted vechile.Battery warning lamp on.Reved engine to 3000 RPM.Lamp remained on.Fan belt looks OK though theres a squeek eminateing from the pully to the top right attached to some sort of hydralic resivour.Whilst motor running gave fan belt a squert of water.Squeek stopped.Do I have a loose fan belt?If so can't seem to locate the tensioning mechanism for the fan belt.Would appreciate any help with these questions before possiably tackling the alternator and its voltage regulator.Hobowandering!
