sprinter cylinder numbering ??

Hi all merry christmas to every one,just a quick simple one,is number 1 cylinder at the back ie first one sitting in the drivers seat looking forward or the first one looking in the engine bay under the bonnet?? Sorry 311cdi sprinter,thanks in advance Mike.

IIRC, No1 is at the front end on all Merc diesels. I've only ever known it be flywheel end on front wheel drive cars.
