Hi, new on here and any help would be great. As I go above roughly 3k rpm there is a whine that gets louder and the noise changes to a higher pitch as i go up the revs. Any ideas? Thanks.

Having not worked on a sprinter it depends which pully bearing is at fault alternator/water pump/PAS pump bearing or idler pully bearing time depends on which one.

Hi, ye that's true, I just thought because they are all in roughly the same place you know, I guess some are in more of an awkward place to get at. Ill get a stethoscope on it, Thanks for your reply Clark.

Is yours the om646 engine?

Best I can suggest is to remove the aux belt, with a 17mm star socket and 4mmm pin to hold the tensioner off.
Then work each pulley looking for slap and rumble.

None of this is a big job for a reasonable garage, it doesn't even require an MB Indie.
If you aim to keep the wagon it's best to use quality replacements.

Hi Martin, yes its the 646, How would I access the benefits of a paid subscription such as reduced price parts from this site? I can see how to do an insurance quote but not parts or labor? Thanks for your earlier reply too.

I generally do my own work and for parts just I search eBay.

Hi, yes I was wondering about the benefits of joining this chat forum, it says cheaper rac insurance, parts, labor and some other things if I get the paid subscription. Thanks for your help though.
