They do appear to work. I wouldn't say much for lowering fuel consumption though.

To be perfectly honest, i'd be more worried about your lack of payload than your performance.

thankyou

many thanks for the information "television & whitenemesis", lots to mull over! i am only intending to improve the torque, due to driving the old 2.9 l, 5cyl. for the last 6 years ,am finding the lack of grunt mixed with the clunky dash mounted gear lever rather tedious, which leads to another question, how can i improve the gear change scenario? that aside ,i am enjoying the web site and i am confident that there is always someone out there willing to help.
stay happy & stay safe

Hi. I'm not sure how much knowledge you have on these engines so I'll start there, but please don't feel patronised if you already know this...

The 211 is a 2.7 tonner with a 110 bhp engine. You also get a 208 (80bhp), and a 213 (130bhp).
You also get a 3.5 tonner 311 (110bhp), a 308 (80bhp), and 313 (130bhp).

You can see the pattern in the badge numbering. These are all the same 2150cc cdi engine but with different tweaks. Therefore is shouldn't be much of a problem to have yours re-mapped to, in effect, become a 213.

I had a 308 which I had re-mapped to be a 311. However the 08 has a smaller turbo so it needed to work harder to achieve the 110bhp output. Therefore although it was much more responsive and quick, if you put the foot to the floor the guy behind you couldn't see for black exhaust fumes. Also the fuel economy could be better or worse depending on how you drove it. If driven with a light foot its economy was about 5-10% better than before the re-map, but if driven hard then it was approx 20-30% worse than pre re-map.

I'd try to find out if the difference between the 11 and the 13 is simply the mapping and take it from there.

Just to throw in some food for thought you also get a 316 (not sure about 216 tho) which has 160 bhp from the 2.7 litre cdi engine as fitted to the ML class. Now that one will shift!

The gearchange is operated by cables and any I've driven are notchy. Perhaps a new set of cables or a reset of your existing ones would improve it. However if it's not absolutely dreadful and you can select all the gears - you'll probably get used to it.

Hope this helps.

Hi , The exhaust fumes can be reduced by "tweeking" the MAP . This is just common practice and possibly illegal. What was the state of the EGR? . Was the File Generic or Custom ?
