I was looking at putting the sportline suspension system into my 1990 300CE 24v. My local scrapyard happens to have a 1990 300E 24v sportline in. I have yet to see the condition but it would be a cheap upgrade to this system.
He wants £200 for whole system. New is £800 and I dont have a spring compressor so shop fittment required for my safety.
Is it worth it ? Or just take the mounting kit if good and sway bars if not too corroded but leave springs and shock and buy new ?
any thoughts ?

The complete sportline set-up also included the faster steering box and the wishbones which had harder rubber bushings. Get those as well.

I guess you already have the upgraded wheels.

Not all sportlines have the suspension package, so make sure that is what you are getting.

What makes it a sportline ? Just the badge
Should it show up in the VIN decode ?

I'm not a Sportline uber-expert but believe Sportline is made up of four items: the lowered & stiffened suspension plus 7x15 wheels with 205/60 tyres, a quicker steering box, the Sportline interior and the badging. I think the interior was perhaps available as front / rear / both - certainly the rear of a Sportline estate has "normal" seats whereas the fronts are stitched & shaped a bit like a Recaro. Sport seats were available as an option without Sportline

Sports Suspension was also available as an option on (any?) car as:
* Sports Chassis with 7" 15-hole alloy wheels and 205/60 tyres [650]
* Sports Chassis with 7" 8-hole alloy wheels and 205/60 tyres [653]

I suspect most E320s had sports suspension as standard. As far as I know the rear suspension of an estate is the same with or without sports suspension

I've recently updated my Optional Equipment page with part codes. Hope it's useful & accurate:
