i have got a 2001 clk 230 i have changed both front and back brake pads due to the screeming sqeaking noise they admit i have put the noise down to the back brakes as after i changed the fronts the noise was still there so i changed the back brakes and the noise went for about 3 days then it came back worse than ever i put it down to cheap pads so i bought better pads ( delphi ) and the noise went again for 3 days and then it come back again it now tends to come and go some days you can hardly here it other days it really turns head but for the wrong reasons as the noise is unbearable i have since tried anti squeak stuff to put on the back of the pads and even this does not help tried copper grease still the same the discs are perfect and the calipers are nice and free any ideas ? this is really doing my head in now i have had the pads on and off about 6 times now every time i use brake clean and spray of the dust and the noise goes but then it comes back any one else had this problem ?

The trick here is that if you are fitting new pads and they squeal ,,sand the surface of the disc first.

New pads must be bedded in slowly, the resins in the pads form a gas,,and it is this that causes the noise,,so bed them in carefully for a few hundred miles.

MB say grease the pistons, rather than the pad,,but this makes little difference

could also be the park brakes making the noise

yes it could be but why would the noise go when i remove and clean the pads ? for a few days ?

maybe its just coincidence. mine were making a noise every now and then, and on the day I tried to find it there was total silence for a few days.

I only mentioned it as a possibilty, its more than likely not the park brakes, just dont rule it out

Once the pads have had a chance to bed down evenly over the whole surface it should be better,,it is the surface of the disc making the pads sound,,just in the same way a violin boe make the sound over the strings,,and as before when bedded in it should go away
