squeaks when driving. It appears to be on the passenger side, i can hear it when the windows down, and im driving past a wall or something. Doesnt seem to be affecting handling. Any ideas?
Ive heard a w124 with a similar sounding problem before. Perhaps its a common problem?

Sort it quickly, it makes a real mess if the wheel comes off and you run over it.

They don't need to be worn with play for them to squeak. Water gets inside them and they seize without showing signs of wear. You should change them as soon as possible.
If they do go when the vehicle is being driven it will make a mess of bodywork and suspension

expensive job?

I really haven't a clue Mike. It will depend on who you get to do the job and where they source there parts from.
I am a bit of a stickler in the parts department as I always buy from the stealership. I have over the years found that aftermarket spares do not last as long and the quality is often very poor

Fair play. Cheers anyways. Ill see what the dealer I got it from says, they gave me a warrenty with it on non wear-and-tear parts... and they did sell it to me with a new MOT, and that should have been picked up surely.. Perhaps, perhaps not, we'll see. Ill call them anyway and see what they say, these warrenties are usually worth bugger all though. Otherwise I guess Ill have to get it done somewhere else.

Not sure but I think there is a cut off date for MOT problems. I think it is 4 weeks. No doubt someone else on the forum will let you know

oh yeah i wasnt thinking about challenging the MOT findings or whatever, I would have thought theyd have picked it up is all. I was saying that I have a warrenty for the car from the dealer. I should cover it... But who knows. lol
Cheers for the advice, I didnt think it was a serious problem really lol, good job I thought I should get an opinion though

Drive belts ( ie alternator drive etc.) can produce an anoying squeak.Get a can of belt dressing and give
it a spray.

My balls are ok! I dont need new balls :) I took it to my garage and they said theres no play in them, and theres no evidence of water getting in them, which apparently causes a powdery residue to come out when its dried. Its stopped squeaking so they just said to bring it back in if it starts to do it again.

Also, on a plus note, the mechanic said it looks like Ive got a good one :) which made me happy

Thanks for all the advice though.

Could be the rear brake caliper sticking on slightly.

It is a recognised fault and the reason it is intermittent is because gradually (in the early stages of starting to stick) they do release themselves.

So, for example if you drive past your wall or hedge just after you have applied youir brakes the rear brakes pads will still be rubbing. Hoever, if your drive past the wall/hedge and you have not recently applied your brakes the noise will not be there because they are not sticking this time.

As time goes on, the sticking will get worse and worse and you will either need new calipers or have the internals changed with the Mercedes refurb kit.
