Hi Guys & Gals

Just wondering if you could help??

My E280 Elegance merc has developed this lovely high pitched um noise which makes everyone look at me but not in the right way :)

I think its from the front driver side and I'm thinking it may be the bearings???

Any ideas??

Ohhhh and my brake warning light has come on and been quoted £86 by kwik fit Worcester is this reasonable??

Have you checked that all your bolts are done up? I know this may come first nature but I had a shogun and I use to have a large squikie noise when driving - lukily for me my m8s dad looked and said ' your V lucky' lol my wheel nuts had all come loose!

I wouldn't let Kwick Fit anywhere near a Mercedes, find a Mercedes specialist in your area and let him do the work. I would also have him fit genuine Mercedes pads as well. As yours is a W211 it most likely has the SBC brakes which you have to be very very careful with when changing pads. If your not careful you could cause quite a bit of damage.

Is the noise when you brake or on all the time?

I have teh same problem on the passenger side, it squeals at low speed even when not braking. I reckon the caliper is fine, perhaps its the pads I have that aren't quite a perfect fit. I'm going to try cleaning it up.

I had exactly this on my c class - turned out to be a knackered caliper - cost at indie for replacement & new pads was £360 - almost all of which was parts & vat - hope you have better luck - tried to get goodwill contribution & found "goodwill" to be in extremely short supply! - still arguing with them but not holding my breath - basically they said if I'd used a main dealer they'd consider it - but then again they'd probably have chucked £100 or so at it, which would have been eaten up by bigger labour costs !
