Merc dealer says my control unit is frozen and needs replacing. If I find a used one can it be programed to suit my car or do I have to buy a new one. regards AA

The only time i can think of them being frozen as such is after a accident when the need to be replaced.

They are certainly interchangable on most other makes and models, cant see why merc would code them.. tho they will have to be reset on a star diagnostic machine
