Hi there,

I am recently the proud owner of my 1st Mercedes, a C280 Sport M-Reg and I love it..

I did however recently have a security device fitted which meant the power was cut to the vehicle for some time, now upon starting my car I have the SRS light showing for approx 5-minutes?

Is this safe? or do I somehow need to reset the SRS system in order for this function to perform properly?

Thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer.

Unfortunately I think SRS light staying on for 5 minutes must be checked out by a dealer.

45 second SRS light delay after starting normally indicates that the drivers front seat belt buckle is worn/broken in some way.( ie. the airbag system does not know if you have put on your seatbelt because the electrical contact inside the buckle is worn.)

I think my first visit to a dealer is going to happen sooner rather than later..

Thanks again.

Hi all

It sounds like the system may of just caught a "cold" when disconnected the battery. Get the system cleared first. Then try it from there. While they are clearing the system. Check what the fault code was. Is it loss of 12v. SRS lights can come on if the alternator is a little dicky, not producing voltage above 9v quick enough. If there is a fault in the system. Eg seat belt buckle. The light will stay on indicating a fault. If it goes of then there is no fault there. Obviously they usually turn straight off. As I have mentioned. Sometimes just clearing the system will sort this problem.

SRS fault C240

HI

SRS fault cannot clear themselves once in the control unit they can only be cleared with diagnostic equipment. this would indicate that you have a problem with you passenger seat occupied recignition. it is very common for the plug to become disslodged underneath the passenger seat

good luck

Hi Piestore,

The statement you have made is not correct. If the system problem has been resolved the system can put the light off. I will admit they don't always do this but they can. As the system does a self test when the vehicle is started. It would seem it may be dependant on the manufacturer of the SRS system. In my experience.

srs fault

Hi Andy

My only experience with SRS is MB systems which are genarally teeves or boshe. on these systems once a fault is logged it remains on the system untill cleared by star or HHT.

srs

Hi Andy

I will have to disagree with you. The only faults that will allow the SRS to be reset are passenger seat occupied recognition faults and child seat recognition faults. Any faults to do with the main air bag circuit and seat belt tensioners leave the light perminantly lit until reset with star or HHT even if the fault has only been temporary. This is done by design because even a temp fault on srs ignition circuits need to be sorted. This ma be different on other makes but this is the case with mercs
