Local MB feedback on this

I just spoke with a local MB dealer service guy who says this means the circuit is open and the side airbag could need replacing (~$1000) or a harness problem ($300-$700). He had never heard of just needing to clean the connections. Any comments?:)

It is known that these cars suffer from wiring degradation around the steering column area that causes SRS issues that cannot be reset.

Sounds like your indie isn't up to speed on your car and I would suggest you either go with the MB dealer for repairs or find an indie that knows MB's.

My column wiring went about 2 years ago when it was 7 years old, Mercedes paid for the repairs under goodwill.

so sorry, was reading that as 'passenger-side airbag', as opposed to 'passenger sidebag'.

according to WIS you have 3x wires to the airbag, with connectors, yes, under the seat.

wire colours green/red, grey/white and brown going to blue yellow and brown.

there are apparently 2x seperate plug connectors, just unplug and reconnect all connectors (ignition off) and see if the code can be erased. might even be worth tightening the pins a little.

It's odd, but the green/red and grey/white wires had been cut from their original harness connecter (about 2" wide) and rerouted to a single two prong connector attached a few inches away. I wonder what that is all about??

Could this be because of the poor connection in the main plug

Possibly, but this was done over 4 years ago before I bought the car, and the SRS light came on after I took ownership.

Sounds like a previous repair gone wrong (have seen this numerous times).

The chance of the actual airbag itself being at fault is about zero - it will be a harness or connector I would expect, with your 'repaired' connector as first suspect.

Hi All, I've just had similar problem on my C class, 2003 - W203, 270 CDi.
"Resistance value in ignition circuit containing component R12/21 ( Right front side airbag ignition squib) is to high"
I used a iCarsoft i980, to scan the Airbag. (Cost about £100) with this unit was able to clear the code, but it came back
on within a few seconds.
I then pulled all the connections out from under the seat, sprayed them with WD40, also in the seat belt holder, pushed that in an out with a screw driver, connected the seat belt.
Cleared the codes again, this time it stayed off and had a short drive.

Hi All, Turned out to be a connector under the carpet in the wheel well. The yellow one in the picture, Pulled it apart, WD40 spray, back together. Cleared the code using the i980 carsoft code reader and its not come back since, over a week of driving.
See this web page http://www.benzworld.org/forums/c209-a209-clk-class/1581356-w209-srs-light-fix-assistance.html
for more details.
Do you mean the yellow connector with the 2 pinkish/brown wires? Is this a CLK500? Or what? My SRS light has been on for 10 years. I think it's going to burn out. They tried putting a left side air-bag on, it fixed it for about 10 months. Then, they said they couldn't fix it. Now the ESP warning is on in addition to the SRS button. That happened after the multi-function switch (turn signal, etc) was replaced.
Thank you.
