Evening all ,
My 2002 S210 E320 Estate has just started leaving the SRS light on. It started misbehaving when I started the car the other day . It goes out very briefly ( less than 1/2 a second ) and then reilluminates. I have checked fuses , connections under the seats , earthing points but nothing seems amiss. Plugged in the Icarsoft and it came up with ' Control Module N2/7 ( Restraint systems control module ) is defective'. I tried to clear the fault , but it came up that it was unable to clear the fault.I am assuming that this the Temic 0028202126 unit that sits behind the ashtray in the centre console. Are they a known failure point? I tried removing it and reconnecting it , but it made no difference. Can I replace it with a second hand unit as I believe new units are several hundred pounds? One area of concern is that on the unit it states that the unit must be coded to the vehicle and installation in other vehicles is prohibited. Is this the case and if so must it be coded by STAR? If they don't need to be recoded , does anyone have one available for a reasonable sum?

Many Thanks

Toby

Further to my last post , I have now changed the module for a secondhand one , which is identical ( in part numbers ) apart from the fact that it is marked Q1 and my original is marked Q2 . As suspected , it came up with a load of errors relating to coding , but my original error message that the module is defective has gone . Interestingly , I can clear the coding faults on my Icarsoft ( and the SRS light subsequently extinguishes ) but as soon as I turn the ignition off and then on again , the coding errors and the SRS light returns. A friend connected his Autel to the car , but couldn't see a way to recode.
So my questions are:
If I get a secondhand unit that is marked Q2 ( incidentally what is the significance of this ? ) will it connect without recoding ?
Does the recoding have to be done on a STAR machine and is a main dealer only option? If so , at what sort of cost?
Are there any other options available? ie is there some one who can repair my original unit?
Clearly looking for an economic solution , but suspect a new unit and recoding at main dealer will be more than the car is worth.

Thanks in anticipation

Toby
