I have recently purchased a 1989 w124 250 Diesel (602 engine, 141,000 miles) , which runs perfect apart from a slight misfire if revved quickly?? she idles perfect, and if you increase the revs slowly there's no problem, however, if standing with my head under the bonnet, thumb on throttle lever, and give her a quick blast, there is a definite misfire and the engine rocks in it's new mountings for a couple of seconds before smoothing out?
Like all these cars, it has the standard ticking tappet, but I don't think this is affecting things, as, if you rev her up the tappet shuts up, but the misfire is still there?
Anybody got any ideas on this one??
Any help gratefully appreciated.

It's difficult to think what it might be as the fuel system's so simple

I'd run it dry, put in some fresh fuel, change both fuel filters and try again. If that doesn't cure it I'd go looking for air leaks or a more mechanical / expensive fault

Cheers Nick,
New filters fitted?
This car was to be for my better half?? however, I get the feeling this could be something extremely simple, or something extremely expensive???
Have driven 3 Diesel Mercedes over the last 18 years and 300,000 miles (110,115 and now my 124 300D) but never heard of a "diesel" misfire before?
I'll let you know if I find out what it is??
Ken.

P.S. Nice website!

It's a teaser, isn't it? Maybe it has one injector that doesn't crack open at the correct pressure?

But the car will probably drive like that with no ill-effects for the next 10 years. By which time Tony Blair may have gone and we'll all be using a free, carbon-neutral, integrated transport system that never breaks down or is delayed

300k in 18 years is pretty good going. I managed 140k in 11 years in one car (a 1987 250TD) and now have a 1995 E300 Diesel

Thanks for the comments regarding the website
