Good morning,

Have you tried re setting the gearbox, the adaptive shifting.

Perhaps this is the ecu you are referring to or has been suggested.

Would that sort the gearbox if I reset it as the pump doesn’t talk to the gearbox ecu any more

The transmission pump never has talked to the gearbox?
It's fundamentally an hydraulic gearbox with electronic control.

So I presume you now have a manual pump (om603 ) . So you do not use the throttle potentiometer any more, now I may be completely wrong but if you could keep the throttle pot being worked by another cable then would this stop the harsh gear changes as the ecu is now getting throttle position input ??

The original throttle cable connected up with the throttle pot ( potentiometer) . The cable pulled on the pot and this then let the engine ecu know how much pedal you were using / pedal travel.
Look under bonnet about a foot in front of wind screen drivers side and you will see it.

In this link below the two pictures above the video show the throttle pot.
