MB wants £50 just to read using the STAR?!!!!!!!!! that was in 2006.

The Carsoft system is really the next level......used by some MB Indy's instead of the Star Diagnosis System

It has some extra functions similar to the (very expensive) Star Diagnosis your dealer uses

1 Service Interval reset and adjust
2 Adaption reset of Engine and Transmission
3 Live Data...Engine & Transmission.... as above

Try another dealer, Pentagon Southampton gave me a price of £33.
Better still locate a suitably equipped specialist in your area.

As above. Some of us in the independent sector have chosen to equip ourselves with MB Star machine. TBH, although it can be a little slow at times, nothing else is as good.

Yeah, sadly I am still running the Thinkpad...

I did look into the Autologic platform at the time, and although it was an impressive piece of kit, at the time it could not do EVERYTHING, and if you want to call yourself a specialist how would it feel if you have to say to a customer "no, sorry - you'll have to visit a dealer for that"?? That may have changed by now though...

The advantage of the Autologic is that it can do other makes - for a price, but that is not specialising, is it??

Difficult choice to make, but I have never regretted choosing the Star.

When I go to the exhibition this week I will look at the X431 again, they will do many makes, and cover everything on MB, at least I could do a few jobs for the garages around me

your never find anything which will work as well as star, it made for merc to work with merc!!!!!iv got other testers but compaired to star they are pretty much useless when plugged into a merc!!!

Im probley bias due to using one on a daliy basis, but having seen BMW GT40 (there star) its slow and can take all night to program a control module, i can do that in a matter of mins! its still the only correct bit of kit for doing the job propley!

I know that MB stealerships have star machines, and that you can get star machines of ebay now and again, and from good old Uncle Sam, but if one is an indie with a star machine, do they(MB Star) offer tech support to non MB people?

If not, isn't that one heck of a risk for an indie to take?

If you buy a genuine STAR machine from Mercedes like we have, then you are compelled to have the updates every month. Circa £110 per month. If you dont apply them, then the system stops working after three months. Also we have access to the Mercedes helpline for STAR too.

If you buy one from ebay you take a risk that it wont work at all or that it will stop after a short while.

STAR is easily the best tool for working on Mercedes cars/vans/trucks etc. It allows us to perform functions that no other system can do.

About £6K but that was over 1 year ago. We have three in total. One is an older one that is frozen in time which is useful for features that are 'no longer supported'

I can understand why you keep one frozen in time,, the amount of info that gets knocked off of WIS makes some older versions really handy,, very much so on the retro fits, another is water leaks in the 210, almost all taken away now

I am going to be the proud owner of one soon in time for my Xmas spirit. It took me a week to negotiate one and it got away because the £ plummeted last week. I made the mistake not to pay for it on that day because I was not sure what it really worths. Even though I got a signed agreement these chinese company don't honoured what they said, it a lesson well learned. Today they want an extra £100.

I spent another 4 hours this afternoon negotiated with another company but holly s**t this only accepts TT/Western Union and WU wants 6.5% fee and even charged me £1.50 to leave a message.

In the end this giggling lass in the disgust of a fanciful male username even sent me an autographed picture of her and ping my webcam to see who I was. Here your opportunity for any loner/sex starved if you want to bring a wife to UK. I can guessed they laughed their head off and got at least 4,000 yuans. That a lot of money to them.
