Hi everyone... What are peoples thoughts on Stargard i.e. is it worth the money?

I was looking at getting my new car done in the G3 Glasscoat, but I've been offered the Stargard via my dealer...

Has anyone ever had this done?

I think these things are generally very overpriced. A regular wash will be just as effective.

We had one of those coatings on the Micra and it was the worst thing we ever did. They're cr@p.

A good independent valet place will be able to apply the finish at a significantly lower price. My father sells the chemicals that are used for things like "Suregaurd" on cars and teflon stain-gaurd on suites, which costs a fraction of the total price charged plus an hour or 2's labour

100% Bitch, do refer to the G3 Glasscoat to be cr*p? interesting if so.

I had Glasscoat applied to my Audi TT and now to my new MB.

Not only does it reduce the amount of times you need to wash your car, but it gives a 5 year guarantee and keeps your car shiny after every wash like you have waxed it.

I paid £200 for mine, and would do it with any future car I own.

I have had supergard on previous cars, but that is nowhere near as good a product as G3 Glasscoat.

This vid on You Tube backs up my claim...

Just watch the water fall off the Beemer!!

ps. I have never heard of Stargard, so cannot comment of any good or not! :)

I had Stargard done but it was only a month ago so can't comment on lengevity yeyt.

It is overpriced, and you can source the stuff cheaper elsewhere and do it yourself, but for the lazy amongst us (and I put myself at the front of that crowd) then the extra cost os worth it to have someone do it for you.

I had a similar treatment done by the dealer on my Renault and that stayed as gleaming as the day I bought it for the 6 years I owned it. It also resisted minor scuffs and at least one attempt by someone to put their cigarette out on it!

So in summary, I would take the dealer up on their treatments every time, and always recommend them to others.

I would spend the money on some good quality wax and give the car a good rub over with it. With the change, head down to your local and buy the lads a few beers ;)

I have Starguard on my Benz... ...but only because the stealer gave it to me for free.

They must have a target of these to shift, when I got my invoice what they'd actually done was charged for it, but deducted the same amount from the cost of the car!

My car was given the Stargard treatment as part of the deal when I bought it. To be honest, I can't tell if it makes any difference or not. The car looks OK when it's washed, but it certainly doesn't gleam or shed water as per the G3 Glasscoat YouTube clip referenced in Redcar's reply.

I would not have been prepared to pay any extra for the Stargard treatment and have declined these 'special finishes' in the past when offered as a chargeable service. That said, I may not be the best person to comment, as I'm not interested in spending time detailing a car - although I do keep my car clean and usually hand wash it. I've always thought my cars looked perfectly fine after a wash and (very occasional) wax.

The dealers make a massive profit from selling these products and the salesmen/women get a nice fat bonus into the bargain

Course Starguard if worth buying!

Well... it is if you have it done at my dealership... (the sale adds to my bonus!)

Any half decent wax from your local Halfords, and an hour or two of your time, will achieve exactly the same effect.

These after-sales "supaguard" treatments are a ripoff on an epic scale.

After all these years I still use MER, by the time you have 3 or 4 applications it does what it says on the bottle.

Maybe it's the lazy sod in me, but if I can get the car treated for £200 so it doesn't need a wax every month or so which I have to do myself, then I will go for it.

It's all down to personal choice in the end, but my idleness aside, I do think these products are very good at what they are supposed to do.

I think they are expensive for what they are.I use a quality polish and then apply a clear wax top coat and washing the car is rewarding.Any car enthusiast likes to clean their car,it's part of the owner experience so using something that makes that pointless is for people who like a shiny car but don't want any further involvment beyond driving it.

If they are as good as you say, why do the manufacturers not supply this as a standard finish for their vehicles?
I for one would certainly consider £200 on the price of a new car worthwhile if it meant I did not have to polish it for 5 years

I assume because it's a product that they know they can sell.

Also, the labour to apply, as Glasscoat is not just the paintwork, it's the interior, wheels, glass.... EVERYTHING!

I really cannot believe some of the comments above, but, hey, everyone is entitled to their opinion.

I am delighted with the finish it gives my car and would have it every time.

If you can get it for a tenner on eBay then do it, but as yet, I have not found any for that price. Anyone got a link??
