Hello

When i go to turn start / turn over the engine, it seems to crank (turn over maybe once or twice) but doesnt spark straight away and when it does spark and start it makes a (what i can only describe as) clunky sound. After it has started it drives perfectly fine.

This doesnt just happen on cold starts its any time of day / night.

Can anyone help diagnose the problem?

Does anyone know where the distributor is located on this car?

Sounds like the starter motor, which is located low down on passenger side of engine, (opposite end to the fan) open the bonnet and get someone to start the car a few times and have a listen.

changed the starter motor around a montha go. This sound had only started happening last week.

Ive read on hear something about greasing a part where the starter and the engine meet (or something like that). Dont know if thats what needs doing

Hello,
The fault you are talking about is greasing the starter motor bendix ( the cog on the starter) and the ring gear ( toothed wheel running completely around the fly wheel on which the stater turns the engine).
However this fault i thought only efected the v engines but i suppose it's worth ago. the grease used is a metalic based gease, i suppose a small amount of copper slip will do the job as effectively.

P.S. just a thought the stater motor bolts havent worked loose have they?

Well Norris, have a listen anyway to determin if the noise is comeing from the starter, I would tend to aggree with both of Ellsy Tanners points.
