Keeping it short, I left my car at airport car park for a week and when i got back, the car wont start. all i heard was clicking noises when turned the key. Soooo called RAC (that after about an hour of hard work got me back on road), This is what it said in the customer assistance report, " Main Line cable from bulkhead to starter cracked, carried out temporary repair and refer to garage for cable replacement".

Now I was wondering, if there is any special cable (mercedes special part) that i should buy before I take it to the garage or would the garage fit any cable there and then?

I'm not sure (someone more up on the lingo will put you right) but it sounds like the earth strap between the chassis and starter/engine.

There will be a Merc part (it shouldn't be expensive as it's just a foot of braided cable - but we know what stealers are like) but I would imagine most garages will have some of them kicking around.

In your diagram 10 is the live + feed and 5 is the - earth cable as to which he's done the temporary repair who knows sounds like a split terminal on the end of the cable from the RAC guy's wording

Malcolm sometimes AA and RAC patrols have to do a "bodge" to get a vehicle going it's part of the game sometimes working out of hours and not having full workshop facilities to hand and it hurts me as an ex patrol to hear such comments, no offence taken but do try laying in a running gutter at 3 in the morning bodging some ones car not always pleasant I can assure you

You have my sympathy on this one, I would not like to deal with this at 3 in the morning, however its a common fault on all classes. And the older S class is the biggest problem of them all.
