Hi all I'm a New member so pleased to say hello to all, working on my 1986 420sl and the starter motor has stopped working for no reason, any suggestions how to test it before looking for new motor? Thanks Mike
First check the connections on your battery ,,clean them up, but you must have the radio code if battery is to be disconnected . Is the battery fully charged ? . And other item is the,, ignition switch itself . You could try hitting the starter with a piece of wood give it a hard tap a few times while someone is trying to start the car . Another is - make sure gear selector is in p -park shift the gears by hand with the selector a few times it might be the safety switch in the selector faulty this will stop the engine starting .
Check all wires and earth's going there cud be a bad earth. Access prob tight but once wiring checked make up a push button job with 2 mt cable and 2ccrock clips by pass solenoid push button n see if she starts if does Does look solenoid. https://itstillruns.com/bypass-starter-solenoid-7444819.html
Could well have seized. A soft wack often does the trick. Battery is good, check connections to Starter.
Be careful turning too much if seized, you dont want a fire.
