Starter motor

Experiencing a problem with the starter motor on my 94 c180.

This is an intermittant problem - on starting it seems as if the starter motor doesnt disengage quick enough and i get that horrible screeching noise - the one you get if you turn the ignition key while the engine is running. Is this a common thin on the c180 - just asking cos out of the 5 i looked at when buying, 3 of them did this !!!!

Is there anything that can be lubricated or adjusted or it it a replacement starter that is called for ???

try some of that lovely mercedes white grease

on the starter ring and the pinion of the motor itself, of have someone do it for you. It seems to be the simple, 1st stage curative.
