Hi all.
Recently my car, a blue W203 C220cdi, has become difficult to start while in Park.
I have to switch off ignition, waggle the gearstick and try again. It is getting worse and takes several 'waggles' to get it to start.

I think it may be something to do with the white cable that comes out of the gearshift mechanism to the ignition switch as I had to move it to route some wires under and around it a few weeks ago. Issue started just after this so I may have buggered it up myself!

Question:

  1. Is there an adjustment process for this cable to 'normalise' it?
  2. Would there be any other switch or clever tech that I should check before pulling the rest of my hair out?

I have added this to the list of niggles to fix, inbetween the rain storms, before the MOT and trip to France at the end of the month.

Thanks in advance.

D.

You neutral switch in the selector is in need of replacement ..it stops you starting in drive or reverse . But wait for other posts to second this ..

Thanks again DREAMER NO2.
I will recover from fixing the rear bushes, repairing the front ARB and oil and filter change and get back under to look at this when I do the bumber removal and headlight replace next week...if it's dry.

Could so do with having a larger garage space and a ramp or pit.

:) :)

How did you get the old bush out?
Need to do both sides on mine but they look very corroded so may have to cut them out

MB are we talking about the selector rubber bushes ? if so--You can get them out, and the way is up to you, they are no longer of any use so like cut them free. The tools are on ebay to refit the new bush . To fit the bushes . Warm them up first in a little washing up liquid and water . ..I know owners that made their own bush fitting tool with a pair of long nose pliers and 2 washers welded on the end 1 on each side just to press them in.

Lucky I am but the garage is full of 'overflow' from the house. Used to keep my africa twin in there until I sold it. Worst thing I did.
For the lower arm bushes I had a tool to press in and out. Wasn't the right one however it got adapted. Going to replace the bolt, I bent it, and sell it on. I also heated the hub with a blowlamp while withdrawing the bush. It was a pig to get out and a breeze to replace. A whole day in all.
