The car is a 1985 230te. It was fine till a few weeks ago when it cranked over and over and then started with difficulty. This got worse and worse until it would not start at all. When looking to see if it was something really obvious we checked that fuel was coming into the unit (don''t know what it is called) - fuel pumped out profusely and the car started first time on the button. Put the fuel line back on, plus air filter, turned the car off and tried to restart but it wouldn't. To get it to go we did as above again and it started and ran beautifully. Took it tothe garage and he checked it out, adjusted some stuff, kept it over night, It started sort of OK but not as it used to. A few days later (not used for those days) it took 15 minutes of cranking and pumping to start it. An clues gratefully accepted.
