Just putting this out there fir some feedback on an issue that I have with my Mercedes 208d T1 1991 2.3 om601.940 engine. Just finally got everything back together following a blown head gasket. The issue that I have is that the engine starts up but cuts out if I don't keep the revs up, it will not idle eventhough none of the fuel settings had been altered on reassembling the engine.
Any advice welcome on this matter
Thank you in advance.

How easy does it start up? I changed my fuel pump once, was hard to start, wouldn't idle,
If I got it to rev past idle, it would only resch 2000 rpm.
I was a tooth out on the timing.

Took a while to get it going, new glow plugs fitted, new injector lines. Definitely a fuel problem me thinks, going to be a case of following and checking fuel lines etc. It was running fine prior to the head being refurbished and refitted.

Update: Fuel going to the injectors, timing perfect, New glow plugs, good compression. Just not firing up.

Does it have a vacuum operated shut off valve like the om603’s ? These can cause symptoms like this .. if so check vacuum lines and lever position

It does have a shut off lever and moves freely when turning it over.
I was wondering about the vacuum lines and unit not sure if this is operating correctly. The lines appear to be correct but will play around with them to see it that changes anything.
