Anyone know what the free play limit is on my 2000 c230k, there is quite a bit of movement before the drop arm moves, only if the wheels are turned either way, this play lessens if the engine is running, if the wheels are straight ahead it is ok, will adjusting the box make any difference? has anyone done it successfully? I am aware not to go too far with it. The car passed its MOT today, was going to ask the inpector how much play is acceptable but didn't want to draw his attention to it, car drives fine and handles well.

Cheers

Hello Glen, yes the engine must be running, and the wheels straight ahead. I have made a note, and will check, I think that you will find it is OK.

Thanks for your help, I still feel it's a little excessive, so some figures would be nice, I think i'll measure the free play on a slight lock, i'll measure at steering wheel and post result.
