Steering Knocking/Clicking Noise A170

Hi,

New to the forum as my partner has just purchased a A170 Cdi (2002). When you jiggle the steering wheel from left to right, their is a slight knocking/clicking noise, there is no play in the steering and the drive is not effected. The noise centres round the steering wheel it's self. Any ideas?
