I have a w124 e280, when the car is sitting idling I have slight play with the steering from right to left.
I also have a problem with the steering shuddering from 65mph+.
Can anybody tell me how I can sort these problems.
Cheers.

With the engine running there should be no more than 25mm at the steering wheel with the wheels straight ahead.

The box can be adjusted with the nut on the end of the steering box,, anti clock tightens it up,, but only do it a little and check that the steering is not too tight on full lock,,otherwise it could jam.

Shaking at say 65 mph is always tyre balancing and nothing else

wheel shaking

Cheers for the info.
The shuddering I have from my steering gets bad the faster I go, and most times if it the balancing is out the shuddering disappears after you get to a certain speed, were as my steering continues to shudder, and sometimes it gets bad when I brake slightly harder than usual.
Cheers

With balancing you can drive into the shudder and out of it again,, when you brake and pass through the shudder band then you will feel it through the brake pedal and steering wheel
